A failed pitch for a new Darna series became a Pandora’s Box that ignited a trending phenomenon on social media. The hashtag #SigawDarna was created after Jemuel Bernaldez and PumaPodcast COO Carljoe Javier posted their rejected Darna pitch.

From then on several artists, including Jive Magazine founder GN Ochoa, created and shared their own version of the iconic local comic superhero. One of the best places to see these is on Instagram so we will pull out some of the best finds there – including GN’s version which appears as if Darna has joined RaveForce. We also encourage everyone to follow these artists on Instagram as well to show support for our local art industry.

Our observations? We noticed that some artists added blue and white colors to Darna’s mostly Red and Golden-Yellow color scheme, taking a nod to our Philippine Flag’s colors. There are flag-inspired elements on other designs while one of the most noticeable was having 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray’s earcuffs. All of the renditions are great, it just shows how creative our Filipino artists can be!
